Water care and re-use Water has been becoming more and more scares in Namibia probably before the discovery of massive water resources in the northern parts of the country. However, preservation of national water resources is still a very important task. Namibia has high evaporation rates which when coupled with low rainfalls present challenges on water supply.
One the projects in the pipeline from the MK group involves reclaiming water from sewage ponds and use it for irrigation purposes. At present sewage water is left to evaporate from sewage ponds. In this project, raw sewage is used to generate biogas and kill up to 90% of protozoa and microbes in sewage water. With additional treatment, treated water can be made safe for irrigation purposes. Irrigation water can either be used to irrigate parks, sport grounds or crops.
